Today we made the most of the afternoon sun to shoot some photos of a few of my recent projects. Photography is not one of my areas of strength, but I've been dogged in reviewing my experiences in order to improve. A year ago I had the epiphany that the light in my kitchen is magical and makes just about everything look exquisite; and recently, I discovered that my two kids are really reliable photographers, and the photos are much more interesting when their is a live person interacting with the still work.
Most of my work is engaging with people, teaching and writing (which I haven't been documenting very consistently lately). But when I work in my studio, I enter a space of mind and ideas, melding my hands and body with the natural world in a deeply contemplative way. I think this is why it makes sense to me to show these objects in a way that is so disembodied and ungrounded, though it is an ironic contrast to the intention behind their designs.
