I wish that people would avoid dollar stores and buy less plastic; and instead of buying wood instead, let's all just buy less, period. Let's not develop a sort of 'material anorexia' about it; let's just all cut back a little bit -- like going on a bit of a diet, you know, not eating dessert as often. Everyone knows that it's not healthy to eat dessert all the time, or to obsess over whether or not one is eating dessert; or, for that matter, to obsess about the quality and purity of that dessert to the exclusion of consideration for the bonhomie of one's dining companions, and the destruction of the powerful, affirmative act of sharing a meal together.
I think that likewise, it is as unhealthy to overindulge in 'stuff', whether 'healthy' (handmade, organic, artisanal) or not, as it is to become intensely restrictive and obsessed with the pedigree of what one buys.
Moderation in all things, and, Bon Appetit!
